Liberia

Liberia is roughly the size of Virginia and located on the west coast of Africa. By law, all individuals between the ages of 6 and 16 must attend school, however, there are not enough schools or teachers to accommodate all of these students. Many families choose not to send their children to school so they can help make money for the family. The population is pretty evenly split between Christianity and animist religions (the belief that spirits inhabit both living things and inanimate objects), and many Liberians combine Christianity or Islam with some animist beliefs.

In Liberia, 22 national Young Life staff and 123 volunteer leaders reach out to approximately 1,600 kids each week through Young Life club.
