Kenya

Kenya covers an area roughly the size of Texas and is located on the east coast of Africa. Due to political turmoil and other events, Kenya's economy has suffered. Schools have been affected by the poor economy, resulting in low-paid teachers taking a second job to supplement their teacher salary. Most children are enrolled in school; English is introduced in first- and second-grade and is the language of instruction starting in third-grade. Most Kenyans are Christians, however, Islam and other indigenous belief systems exist as well.

There are four national Young Life staff members and more than 75 volunteer leaders reaching approximately 1,800 students each week.
