My name is Macrine, and I live in Hola, a small town in Kenya located on the Tana River. I reside with my parents and three siblings. Our area poses various challenges, such as flooding, droughts, lack of clean water, hunger, and inadequate healthcare. Domestic violence stemmed from the stressors that my parents faced. Our church elders intervened and spoke wisdom over our parents, and by God's grace, their behaviors changed for the better.

Although raised in church, I knew I was not at peace in my spiritual life. My fourth year in high school proved a pivotal time for my faith. I was suffering from a life-threatening illness and found myself doubting my future. Family and friends prayed for me and reminded me to remain hopeful and trust Jesus. I was able to overcome my illness, which proved a catalyst for my spiritual growth. Attending church and being invited into Young Life renewed my faith and directed me on the path of service. Today, I serve youth in my church and our local Young Life.

As a Developing Global Leader, I am attending the Kenya Medical Training College to pursue a nursing degree, making me the first college graduate in my family. Since childhood, I have dreamed of being a nurse, wanting to help people in my community. The Lord has given me a servant’s heart and an optimistic outlook. As an aspiring nurse, I look forward to caring for the least of these and showing them God’s love.
