Mitshel lives in Kenya, Africa with her parents and four brothers. Kenya faces serious trials of high unemployment, deepening poverty, and a significant gap between the living conditions of the country’s elite and its urban poor. Mitshel has witnessed the challenges of securing meals, meeting basic needs, and paying school fees firsthand. Even still, her parents’ faith and work ethic as farmers allowed her to dream of a brighter future. She believes being raised in poverty “enabled her to be humble” and gave her resiliency.
A pivotal point in Mitshel’s life came when she accepted an invitation to a Young Life camp. Hearing the speaker share the story of Job struck a chord with her. She related to the plight of living with so little but remaining faithful. Having grown up in the church, her faith became more tangible upon the realization that it could be so personal and offer great comfort. Today, Mitshel serves as a club leader in the western province of Shibuli. She strives to give others hope by sharing how “the hand of God took her through all life's challenges.” Her prayer is for the youth to feel the peace and certainty of having such unconditional love.
As a Developing Global Leader, Mitshel is studying education at Masinde Muliro University and will be the first in her family to earn a college degree. As an educator, she will "dedicate herself, with all her heart," to empowering her students to better themselves. Mitchel understands the value of education. Her mission is to introduce others to Jesus and provide a better way of life for her family and her community.
