Burundi is a small country roughly the size of Maryland, situated between Rwanda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, despite the small size of the country, Burundi is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa. An estimated 11.5 million people call Burundi home. Most citizens lived through a civil war that began in 1993 and lasted until 2005, taking the lives of an estimated 300,000 people. More recently, the country has experienced another wave of political turmoil and civil unrest. Despite this, Young Life ministry began in Burundi in 2015.
