Belgium

A country with a complex political history, Belgium is governed by both a monarchy and a bicameral federal government. Given its position between Eastern and Western Europe, its history is marked by the numerous war conflicts fought on Belgium soil, earning it the nickname, "the Battlefield of Europe." Although the country's population lives almost entirely in urban settings (97 percent), it is divided culturally and geographically by the dominant language spoken in three distinct regions. Belgium also has three recognized religions: Roman Catholicism, Islam and Judaism. However, any type of attendance at a religious service is extremely low, around 5 percent, with many claiming no spiritual beliefs at all.
