My name is Bidilu, and I live in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with my parents and siblings. We live in a country that suffers from poverty and violence. My father is unemployed, and my mother sells fruit. Although we struggled daily to meet our basic needs, it wasn’t until I lost my uncle I began to feel hopeless. He was the one who made it possible for me to attend school. His passing felt like my dreams for a better way of life were fading. I spent a season feeling aimless and sad.
Fortunately, my pastor reminded me that I had misplaced my hope. Even though I lost focus, my heart remembered that true hope was found in Jesus. Currently, I find joy in serving at my church and with my local Young Life community. Surrounding myself with a supportive community and giving back to others has brought me much happiness and a sense of purpose. As a Young Life Leader, I want to invite others in and share God's love. Throughout hardships, I find true comfort in caring for others.
As a Developing Global Leader, I will pursue a dream I thought was once out of reach. I will attend the Higher Institute of Medical Technology to become a nurse and be the first in my family to earn a college degree. The Lord has placed a desire within me to care for others and help return them to good health. Even greater, I know that I am called to share the gift of His love with all those I encounter.
