My name is Isaac, and I live in the Kyaliwajala area of Kampala, Uganda, with my mother and three siblings. We were a family of six until my father abandoned us in my early years. My mother is one of the most hard-working people I have ever known. However, as a teacher in private schools, her pay is poor, and her job security is limited. This forces our family to move quite frequently in and around the city of Kampala. Although we lack financial security and stability, we do not lack love. My mother’s resilience to care for her children and students is remarkable.
A pivotal point in my life was when our local Young Life leader invited me to club. I found myself wanting to return each week to hear about this Father who loves you unconditionally and never abandons you. It was so foreign to the father I knew as a child. Then, one day, a speaker shared a message based on John 3:16, and my heart was moved to say yes to Jesus. I knew I needed and wanted Him in my life. Starting my relationship with my heavenly Father has given me direction and a passion for serving others. I am now grateful to serve as a Young Life leader in my area, where I look forward to telling others about what a good, good Father we have in Jesus.
As a Developing Global Leader, I will attend Makerere University in Kampala to earn a degree in business statistics. It intrigues me and I know I can be successful. I hope to better care for my family and help those in my community seeking work or needing a friend. Showing compassion for others and telling them about Jesus is a joy.
