My name is Amos and I live with my elderly parents and siblings in Uganda, one of the world's poorest countries. Growing up, we never had a permanent home, so our family was forced to move frequently. Most of my siblings never finished their schooling due to the lack of finances, leading them to live destructive lifestyles. Although I feel my parents did their best, necessities were a struggle and the home was always under considerable stress.
In 2018, a friend invited me to an event at school where I heard thought-provoking questions: "Where is your life heading?" "For whom do you want your life to count?" Deeply moved and feeling the weight of life, I realized that I needed and wanted to make a change. When the question was posed, "Does anyone want Jesus to be their Savior?" I made the best decision to let go of my old self and accept the gift of Jesus. From that day on, Jesus took over my life. I am blessed to serve on our local Young Life team where I can share the good news of the Gospel with those in my area.
As a Developing Global Leader, I am attending the Arua Institute of Health Science and will be the first college graduate in my family. My goal is to earn a medical degree and become a doctor. Witnessing my parents' health struggles has inspired me to make a difference in our healthcare community. I aim to provide compassion, quality care, and access to medication. Most importantly, I want to introduce them to Jesus and the hope, unconditional love, and joy that he offers.
