My name is Sabina and I live with my parents and siblings in Zanzibar. Growing up, we were plagued by my father's alcoholism and physical abuse. From the day I was born, my father rejected me and refused to provide for me. My mother has been my hero and biggest advocate for my education and spiritual well-being. She has struggled to earn enough money to pay my education fees and has always sought wise spiritual counsel for her children. It is a blessing that my father’s disdain of me has not overshadowed the love of my mother and my Heavenly Father. One of the most pivotal parts of my spiritual life was when I was invited to Young Life by our local leader. I was initially skeptical, but after attending some events, I experienced authentic joy and began a relationship with Jesus. I currently serve as the team leader in the Tungu neighborhood. I attribute so much of the goodness in my life to the relentless love my mother has always shown me. She fought for my education, my food, and for me to know the Lord. I want to honor her by pointing others toward Jesus and pursuing a better life for myself and my family through higher education. As a Developing Global Leader, I am earning an international relations and diplomacy degree and I will be the first college graduate in my family. My vision is to be a great leader who will make life better for those in our country. I want to not only help my family, but I also want others to witness God working through me and create a country where food, education, and personal safety are not a privilege but a right.
