Adam
My name is Adam. I live in Machui, Zanzibar, with my parents and siblings. Although I thank God I was born into a Christian family, there have certainly been low seasons. When I was younger, I was in a horrible accident and suffered injuries that caused me to be hospitalized for six months. I missed a lot of schooling, and the medical fees were too high. Afterward, we could no longer afford our school fees, so I was sent to an orphanage to be educated. Initially, adjusting was difficult, but it was the only way I could continue my education. When it was time to return home, I was lost and ran in the wrong crowd.
It wasn’t until I was invited to attend local Young Life events that I changed my lifestyle. A leader noticed the negative path I was on, and he encouraged me to be involved in clubs and camps. He wanted me to see there could be a different way of life. Slowly, I met new friends. We laughed and played, and I could see what a better life Jesus wanted. I knew then I needed to renew my relationship with Jesus and begin living for Him. I currently am a team leader of our Machui neighborhood club. I have found immense happiness serving the youth in our community.
As a Developing Global Leader, I am attending Zanzibar Alliance and working towards a degree in hospitality management. I aspire to become the first college graduate in my family and set a positive example for my siblings. In my region, this field of study is highly sought after, and it will enable me to break free from poverty and support my family. While continuing to spread the gospel, I hope to inspire others much like my leader did for me.
