Robert

My name is Robert, and I live with my mother and siblings in the Pader district of Uganda having lost my dad in an insurgency at age one. I lived most of my childhood imagining how my dad could have looked, for I could never picture him in my mind. I don't remember much about him, but my mom's stories and tears told me how much he loved me. She shared stories of his kindness, his laugh, and his love for us, but it wasn't the same as having him here. I know my dad's love is always with me, guiding me through life's ups and downs. And I make sure to make him proud. His death left the family in challenges since my mother had to fend for our every need.



I gave my life to Jesus Christ at age fourteen, but was discipled and mentored in Young Life as a teenager where I learned that God is the father to orphans like me. Therefore, I aim at expanding the Young Life ministry in my community so that many lives of young people can be transformed by the truth of God’s word.



With support from Developing Global Leaders program, I will study dentistry at Kampala International University so that I can help my community; most importantly I hope to financially support young people that share similar dreams yet cannot afford to support themselves. Through the mentorship and ministry opportunities I hope to further develop my leadership skills and encourage others to grow in hope for their life. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
