Deborah is a resilient young woman from Kinshasa, Congo (DRC). She is one of eleven children, and the death of her father, on her birthday, left the entire family reeling. Her mother fought and sacrificed to put the children through school, however, her efforts left the family even more desperate when she borrowed money and was conned out of her home. Without recourse, she found no justice and the family had to relocate to live with their extended family. Deborah has endured unspeakable hardship but has found inspiration and comfort from her mother’s love which has taught her to persevere.
Deborah was introduced to Young Life by a neighbor who repeatedly invited her to attend. She finally relented and went to camp where she was overwhelmed by the love and power of God, and even witnessed a friend be miraculously healed. She came home and grew in her faith, eventually becoming a team leader in her community. This same neighbor, a Young Life area director, shares about Deborah, “Her greatest strengths are her relationships with people in her community, her way of solving problems, and her way of influencing a large number of young people to participate in club.”
Now a Developing Global Leader, she is studying business management at Higher Pedagogical Institute. When asked about her vision for the future, Deborah shares, “After personally experiencing confusion and corruption in the business world, I hope to help create an improved system for the management of public companies in my country while leaving a positive imprint on the workplace and in my ministry.”
