From the day of his birth, Nkondi recalls the challenges of financial hardship and illness. Born in a commune outside of Kinshasa, the capital city of Congo (DRC), Nkondi is one of four sons in his family. Nkondi was most challenged by poverty when he had to drop out of school multiple times due to a lack of finances to cover his school fees. He learned the value of hard work and was proud to complete secondary school.

Nkondi was born into a Christian family, but what most activated his faith was when his brother was sick and no medical help seemed to make a difference to his condition, however through prayer he was not only healed, but Nkondi’s life was changed forever as he put his faith fully in God from that moment. Since that time, Nkondi’s faith has grown and his lifestyle has changed dramatically. He is actively involved in the ministry of Young Life and has been overjoyed to share the word of God with others.

Now a Developing Global Leader, Nkondi is pursuing a degree in psychology at Higher Pedagogical Institute. Nkondi shares his desire to link psychology to education. “My vision is linked to my teaching vocation. I want to understand people better in order to know the real problems behind their behavior. So often we see young people traumatized by their daily experiences, not in relation to their own will but experiencing discouragement and defeat on a daily basis in their families, their environment, in schools and even in certain churches. I want to use my degree to help provide restoration to these kinds of people in my community.” Nkondi will be the first in his family to graduate from university.
