Margret

My name is Margaret, and I was born in Laikipia county in central Kenya. I lived with my father, mother and brother for the better part of my life until my parents' separation; their separation affected my emotional and social well-being immensely. I became withdrawn from friends and preferred to be alone. Becoming a single mother and working as a street vendor (hawker) was not easy for my mother. She decided to remarry in an attempt to get help raising us. This made the situation worse for me, as I could not get along with my stepfather. My mother decided to send me to Mombasa to live with my aunt to maintain peace in the family.

Being away from my family was very sad, I constantly felt forgotten. I decided to shift my focus and energy to studying hard and being the best in school. It was during this time that I was introduced to my Young Life leader. The joy of having a group that became more than family was unexplainable. Through journeying with kids and hearing their stories, I yielded immeasurably more, including healing and forgiveness in my heart.

Now a Developing Global Leader, my goal is to study and build a career to help my family, as I continue to serve kids. My greatest desire is to build my mum a house. I am currently studying at Kenyatta University, pursuing a degree in education. I want to become a secondary school teacher and be face-to-face with teenagers and share the love of Jesus with them.
