Gloria

My name is Gloria and I live in Biyaya village in Uganda with my aunt and uncle plus my cousins and siblings. I am one of five children, although one died as a baby followed by my father dying when l was young. My mum was a peasant and she struggled to pay for our basic needs and schooling, but my uncle took us into his home to help pay for our school fees. He struggled and yet managed to pay for us in spite of times with no work and having to take loans, always making sure to push us through. I even studied my final year on credit but worked hard to emerge as one of the best students in school. In high school, I lost my mother; l was broken. I couldn't imagine losing my mother on top of all of the suffering I had endured. It was then that I learned another part of the world exists, so l collected myself together to fight through thick and thin to be able to help my other siblings in the future.

Life without biological parents is unbearable at times, even when you have guidance. I had to learn to be strong and press on with the knowledge that Christ was with me always. When I got involved in Young Life, I kept learning and growing to be more like Christ.

Now a Developing Global Leader, I am studying business and will become the first in my family to graduate from university. I hope to be a woman who will inspire others and change someone's story. I desire to serve people and help them to the best of my capacity, knowing that nothing is impossible with God.
