Joseph

My name is Joseph. I was born and raised in a small town called Ruiru in Kiambu, Central Kenya. Growing up with both my parents was the best thing about my childhood. Life came crumbling down when my dad passed on when I was ten years old. He succumbed to an illness that drained the family's resources. We were left with only my mum to depend on, who at that time was a housewife. She tried her best to ensure that we had our basic needs met. Her desire to give us a better life was cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer. Our struggles intensified with time as she sought medical help. We were thrown out of our rented house and would go for days without food.

It was during this difficult time that I met my Young Life leader in the high school that I attended. Having someone to share my struggles and pray with me drew me to get involved with Young Life club in our school. I gave my life to Christ at camp and began my journey of growing with Christ. I was trained to be a leader after completing my high school education and started ministering hope to high school and junior high kids.

Now a Developing Global Leader, my greatest desire is to share hope with the teenagers and with my family. I am currently studying engineering in telecommunications at the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology. I will be the first person in my family to have a college education and hence would love to inspire more to pursue education. I hope to be a light in my community and an inspiration in our country.
