Angus

My name is Angus and I live in Bangor with my mum, dad, younger brother and younger sister. I was born with a condition called craniosynostosis which made me automatically different from everyone else due to a large scar on my head and an increased chance of headaches and developing low self-esteem. Even though those things have affected me, I was always driven in school to work hard as I wasn’t naturally academically smart. I participated in many sports from a young age and still love to play today, especially football.

I grew up in a Christian household, attending church regularly from a very young age. I asked God into my life early on and I understood what it meant but didn’t take it seriously until I got into secondary school. I was bullied in school for my faith which only strengthened it. Through attending Christian camps, I started taking my faith seriously and fully committed to it. I became connected to Young Life when a few of my close friends invited me along to club, and I have been involved ever since.

As a Developing Global Leader, I hope to finish my university course in biomedical science at Queen's University Belfast and eventually complete a masters to branch off into a more specific area in the medical industry. I love the medical industry because I want to be able to help people. As a DGL, I hope that I will be able to share the love of God with other people in my courses, and especially in Young Life through club, contact work and other events that the kids and teenagers attend. One of the teenagers that I had the honor of leading this year said that club on a Saturday is the best time of his week, so as a DGL, I look forward to trying to do the same for more teenagers by spreading the joy of God while also having fun.
