Albert

My name is Albert, and I was born into a family of six kids in central Burundi. My father, the sole provider for our family, died when I was eight, which made life extremely difficult. From that time on, I no longer had the luxury of focusing only on my schoolwork. It was difficult for me to study and succeed because I needed to find a way to help my family have food and survive.

When I was eighteen, I learned about Jesus Christ from a teacher at school and I believed. I changed my pagan and bad behavior after this decision. I began to attend church and I became connected with Young Life after being invited to a Campaigners session. God is changing my life by helping me as I read the Word of God, day by day. I am deeply impacted by having the right people in my life at the right time to help me grow in my faith. Now I help other lost kids to know the way of salvation.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I have decided to study economics to help my community overcome our difficult lives. Since my childhood, life has been so hard in our society because of poverty. As the first in my family to go to university, I want to help young people to create businesses with the skills and items that they have been given. I believe that I can make a difference in ministry and in society by raising the development of my country and helping those that are jobless to discover opportunities for work.
