Jane

My name is Jane. My friends call me MJ. I live in Kiamumbi, Kenya. When I was one-year-old, both my parents passed away and I was separated from my siblings. Growing up as an orphan added many childhood problems, including the lack of school fees. It was not easy and tore my heart into pieces. It also gave me bitterness in my heart, which was only lightened when I gave my life fully to Christ.

I was brought up by my guardian in a Christian home, but had no personal relationship with Jesus until I went to Young Life camp and later attended a campaigners weekend that further deepened my faith. The speaker spoke of how God could lighten my burden of bitterness, and through the love of my leader, I was able to overcome my past and give my life to the Lord. My daily walk with Christ has been quite an interesting journey; I have learned to pray, read and understand the Word of God and also confidently share it with others. I am now a neighborhood Young Life team leader.

My vision for my education and career is to continue sharing Christ with my friends and those around me. I will be the first person in my family to attend and graduate from college. As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying hospitality at Kenyatta University. This industry will provide me with opportunities to interact with many people, as well as work in different locations around the world. I am grateful that this degree will enable me to venture into my life-long dream of service.
