Skye

My name is Skye and I grew up in Bangor, Northern Ireland with my mum, dad and sister. I had a happy and supportive family dynamic until my dad left my mum for someone else when I was fourteen. The following year, my mum suffered from an emotional breakdown and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia due to trauma. Having ADHD myself, this change hit me extremely hard. I had no one to rely on resulting in a lot of adult responsibilities, including caring for my mum and little sister. This was extremely difficult and overwhelming for me. Instead of turning to God, I turned to worldly things in my younger teenage years. I now live with my mum, sister and Papi who are extremely supportive of my faith.

I always knew who Jesus was growing up. My mum took me to Sunday school and my nanny who I was very close to loved Jesus so much. Sadly, due to the friends I kept and everything that happened in my life, I ended up walking very far away from Jesus. When I was seventeen, a friend in school asked me what I was waiting for and why I wasn’t still walking with Jesus? My answer was always “I will eventually” but I sat and asked myself ‘why not now?’ I seriously had a wake-up call; I started going to church again and grew closer to God day by day. Ever since, my life has been completely changed.

I am currently studying Theology at Belfast Bible College. My heart has always been for youth ministry. I hope to do this following the completion of my degree. I am so passionate about telling young people about how amazing our God really is and how He really will change their lives just like He did mine! I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to be a Developing Global Leader, to not only tell young people about Jesus but also to learn how to lead others with love.
