Hi, I’m Martin. I come from a polygamous family. Tragically my mother passed on when I was young, and I was raised my grandmother who died shortly after. I was then taken back to my father’s home where I was mistreated by my two step-mothers. Feeling like I had no ally, I ran away from home to the streets. This is where I met a Young Life leader who gave me parental care and spiritual growth. I joined Young Life and gave my life to Christ at camp. After camp, my Young Life leader took me back home and helped reconcile me with my father and one of my step-mothers. I now live with my wife and children in the same compound, in a rural village near Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Losing my mother at a young age has been the greatest challenge of my life. However, my life has been transformed by Jesus through my Young Life leaders. Their guidance, friendship, and counsel have molded and groomed me into a man of character and has motivated me to work hard and grow. As a Developing Global Leader, I have chosen to study education at Kyambogo University. I believe education is one of the most essential needs of human life, and I love this career because it gives me the opportunity to invest in teenagers and become an agent of transformation in my community through education. I am the first in my family to attend university.
