Jeff

Hello, my name is Jeff, and I grew up in Corail, in the city of Croix des Bouquets, Haiti. I live with my grandmother, my aunt and three cousins in a house of three rooms. We periodically have public electricity, and we have to buy water. I was raised by my grandmother because my father did not take responsibility for me. When I was only seven months, I was separated from my mom, because she could not take care of me. My childhood was not easy. Sometimes I am upset with my mother because of the insecurity of my life. However, I am grateful to have had the chance to go to public school.

I was raised in a Christian family, but I did not take Jesus seriously. I was invited by a Young Life leader to come to club with him; from the first day I felt I was at home and found a family that I never had. I can say that it was when I started to get involved in Young Life, I became closer to God. I spent more time with Christ, and I started to have Jesus as the center of my life. I pray whenever I wake up in the morning, spend time reading my bible, trusting that God protects me and my family in spite of all the insecurity we are facing.

With the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I will be able to graduate with a degree in computer science. I would like to create new software that has to do with selling products. I am committed to my studies, because I want to participate in the changes of my country. I want to have my own enterprise and share my knowledge with others. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
