Haiti

Haiti shares an island in the Caribbean with the Dominican Republic. It is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with more than 80 percent of the population below poverty. Haitians are of African descent and still continue many of the same traditions. Extended families are extremely important and the elderly in the community are revered. Most of the schools in Haiti are private and tuition is a burden to many families. While most Haitians are Catholic, voodoo is also widely practiced.

Jenn Vi (Young Life) in Haiti began in 1999 and is led by a national director and a team of 29 national staff. There are also more than 100 volunteers throughout the country and approximately 675 kids attend club each year.
