Ralph Stanley

My name is Ralph Stanley and I am from Ville, Haiti. I grew up with my mother only, my mother and father are not married, and they each live separately. I did not have access to buy what I wanted, nor to go to the school I wanted, but my mother has done everything possible for me to be the person I am today. I have four brothers and four sisters, but only a few of us were fortunate enough to complete our classical high school studies. Although my life was difficult and I had to move away from my family to complete my schoolwork, I can see God’s hand Who made a way for me.

In high school, I had two Christian friends, and one of them preached the Gospel to me. With the testimony of my good friend, I began to trust in Jesus. Since then, my faith has grown every day; I have been greatly influenced by church and my involvement in Young Life. Although following God has come at a great cost in my relationship with my family, I am compelled to grow in my faith and reach out to the youth in my community who do not know the love of God.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, my vision is to graduate from a local university and become a great entrepreneur. I want to have knowledge of the commercial markets of Haiti to share with others to help them out of poverty and hopefully change the mindset of my community. My goal is to generate business in my community and create several enterprises to give a team of people work and change their lifestyle. I plan to seize the opportunities to develop my leadership skills, and let more people know Jesus Christ as I become the first in my family to graduate from university.
