My name is Tabael and I live in the shanty town of Delmas near Cite Soleil, an extremely impoverished and densely populated community located in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area in Haiti. I have two brothers and six sisters in my family. After the death of my mother a few years ago, I live with my little brother in a room with no electricity and no water. Although lawlessness prevails in my community, I strive to have compassion on my fellow man and be an influence of good and love to those I encounter.
Invited by a friend to attend club, from day one I had a feeling that something good would come out of that decision. Though I walked into that meeting misguided and self-seeking, my encounter with God through Young Life has changed my outlook completely. I know that I am fully loved which has led to feeling free and fulfilled. I am devoted to God in prayer and passionate to help expand the kingdom of God.
Now a Developing Global Leader, the unimaginable has become a reality as I pursue a degree in accounting at INIKA University. I have always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur. In addition to my sense of leadership and ability to take initiative, my accounting degree will help me better understand how to fulfill my dearest dreams to help others and make a name for myself in business in Haiti. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
