My name is Thomas. I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with my mom, dad and little brother. I grew up in a Christian home, and church has always been a part of my life. However, as I started secondary school, I struggled with the transition and found it hard to be open. I tried to get through problems on my own without really opening up to anyone, and I became anxious. Then, instead of going to God for help, I tried to find satisfaction in things like sports, which did not help at all.
I grew up in and around church. I gave my life to Jesus as talks at church started speaking to me, and my relationship with God became stronger and more fulfilling. I also grew as I found more connections between my faith and sports and how my sports could be used as a benefit to my faith, opening up conversations with teammates. This helped build my confidence in Jesus, which then led me to go to Young Life. I am now a junior Young Life leader.
As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying chemistry at Queens University in Belfast. With my degree, I hope to become a teacher. I also want to continue helping more kids meet God through Young Life.
