My name is Darius. I live in East London, England, with my parents, sister, grandmother and uncle. My sister has autism, and this has been a significant and challenging experience in my life. However, it has helped me think more about others and is a big reason why I wanted to become a DGL student. During my childhood, I also struggled, seeking the approval of others and wanting to be the center of attention. This made me feel empty until I learned that my identity is in Christ.
I grew up in an Orthodox Christian household where I attended church and knew about Jesus, but did not follow Christ. When I was 10 years old, I heard the Gospel and gave my life to Jesus at a Young Life football camp. I began attending church, but was still living a double life where my desire to have the approval of others took control. I attended another Christian summer camp in 2022 and committed to the Lord fully there. He helped me grow out of this desire to seek approval and made me want to seek Him. Since then, He has been working miraculously in my life, growing my love for Him and all people. Now, I am involved in my church, and I am a Young Life leader.
As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying accounting and finance at Queen Mary University of London. I will be the first person in my family to attend university. I hope to use my degree to become a chartered accountant. I also want to continue spreading the Gospel to the young people of East London.
