My name is Yohanes Tesfaye, but people call me John. I’m 19 and I live in Addis Ababa with my wife, Maheder. I grew up in Addis with my mom, Tsige, and my brother. My dad passed away when I was still a child. That was one of the hardest moments of my life. I overcame it by leaning on God and spending time in prayer. My mom’s faith kept me anchored. She taught me about Jesus, and when I was a teenager, I gave my life to Him.
I first heard about Young Life in my village. I was drawn in by the community and the love people showed me. For 2 years I was a club/campaigner kid. Then God called me to lead. For the last 6 years I have served as a Young Life leader in high school, Wyldlife and sports clubs. I have grown in prayer, His word and love and service for people.
With the privilege of the Developing Global Leaders program, I will begin my first year at Addis Ababa Theology College. I will study Christian Leadership in Theology and Christian Ministry. I chose this field because I want to serve God in every way I can. My dream is to lead a church and shepherd people well.
