My name is Meseret Ayenew, but people call me Mesi. I live in Chagni, Ethiopia. My parents are both deceased. I am the first born of 5 and will be the first in my family to attend university. I grew up in a Christian family and faith was part of my life from the very beginning. As a child I started serving in church — in choir, youth leadership, high school Christian student fellowship, and prayer team coordination. These strengthened my faith and taught me leadership.
Ephrem Samuel invited me to Young Life club as a kid; I begun serving as a leader a year later. Today, I am a Young life leader at high school and WyldLife clubs. My greatest strength is hope and a sound prayer life. I try to encourage others to trust God in every situation.
Now a Developing Global Leader, I will begin studying to become a Clinical Nurse at Ethio Gojjam University in Chagni. Providing medical care and helping my community stay healthy through nursing has been my childhood dream. In the DGL program, my goal is to stay loyal to God, to serve in Young Life, and fulfill the calling the Lord has on my life as I work as a nurse and continue serving in Young Life after graduation.
