I am Ishmael. Born and raised in Kabala, Sierra Leone. I lost my mother when I was 8 years old, and later my father also passed away. Losing both parents at a young age brought deep emotional and financial challenges, especially while trying to continue my education. I’m now living with my adopted parents, and I have 7 brothers and sisters. Those hard seasons taught me responsibility early. Despite the pain, I stayed committed to school and to God. That is where I learned that resilience, hard work, and faith can carry you through anything.
I first heard about Young Life through friends who invited me to activities. That invitation changed my life. Through Young Life I found a Christian community that helped me grow spiritually, discover my purpose, and develop as a leader. After 4 years as a Campaigner kid, I began serving as a Team Leader in Young Life High School ministry for students ages 14-18. Leadership challenged me to grow in humility, consistency, and putting others first. I also grew in my personal walk with Jesus through prayer, Bible study, and the encouragement of mentors. My church background has supported me as well, helping prepare me for ministry.
Now a Developing Global Leader, I will begin studying Business and Economics, majoring in Human Resource at the University of Makeni. My goal is to use my education to serve my community, support my family, and glorify God through excellence. Through DGL, I want to grow academically, spiritually, and as a servant leader. I’m committed to discipling more young people to know Christ. I believe God will use my story to bring hope to others.
