Jessie

My name is, Jessie, but most people call me Sanctuary. I am from Awutu Bawjiase in the Central Region of Ghana, and I currently live with my grandmother. I grew up in a humble home. My father, Abraham Darkoh, was a farmer and has passed on. My mother, Sarah Cobbina, is a trader. I have 6 siblings. As a child I sold coconut, kerosene, vegetables and pure water to help with school expenses and family upkeep because of financial difficulties. I am the first in my family to attend university. I completed SHS in 2021.

My faith is everything to me. I met Jesus at the age of  seven after a gospel message on repentance and grace by Pastor Dr. W. F. Kumuyi. I also went through a time of backsliding, but God brought me back through prayer and repentance. Today I serve as a Youth Leader and Assistant Pastor in my church, and I also interpret in Twi and Fante. I got involved with Young Life through Abraham Ayiah during contact work. For 3 years I was a campaigner, and for 2 years I have served as a club leader in Wyldlife, working with students ages 10-17. Young Life has helped me grow as a leader who serves and thinks about the future.

Now a Developing Global Leader, I am starting my Bachelor of Education in Social Studies at the University of Education, Winneba. I chose Education because I have a passion for humanity. I want to be a teacher who transforms lives, not just transfers knowledge. I also want to be a pastor who impacts people through the Holy Spirit. In the DGL program I want to study hard and help spread the Gospel of God Almighty.
