Juan

My name is Juan. I grew up in the city of Areguá. I spent most of my childhood with my aunt and uncle because my mother worked long hours, and my biological father was absent, living in another country. God gave me two mothers and an earthly father as I was allowed to call my aunt and uncle “Mom” and “Dad.” Despite growing up in a good environment, during my teenage years I faced a deep emotional void caused by the absence of a father figure.

My story of transformation began when I hit rock bottom during a period marked by a strong dependence on negative habits. I was desperately trying to fill the void of love I felt was missing, but all I found was a sense of bondage and a lack of peace. However, through discipleship at my church, I discovered my true identity in Christ; I realized that I am His son and that I don’t have to beg for the love He already offers me.

At age 17, my relationship with Jesus became truly personal. Shortly after, a friend invited me to Young Life, and even though I lived an hour away, I attended faithfully. Today I realize that my painful past enables me to understand and help other young people who are dealing with similar emptiness or absent parents.

As a student in the Developing Global Leaders program, I am studying Theology and Christian Ministry at CEMTA. I am deeply grateful that I will be the first person in my family to graduate from college. My future vision is to become a professor, earn a master’s degree, and serve as a spiritual growth director at Young Life training other leaders.
