My name is Catherine, and I currently live in Nakuru County, with a friend I grew up with in the orphanage. I was born in Kisumu, where I lived with my parents and two older brothers. My childhood was marked by both love and hardship. My father worked as a local salesperson, and my mother stayed home to care for us. Despite his efforts, we often struggled to afford food and basic needs. In 2008, my mother passed away from tuberculosis, and my father remarried soon after. Unfortunately, my stepmother mistreated us. When my father passed away in 2010, my stepmother abandoned us and left with everything. My brothers went to search for food, and I stayed with a neighbor.
I grew up knowing about Jesus but developed a personal relationship with Him in 2017 after deciding I wanted a different path from my family’s history. I was baptized and began walking closely with God. I was introduced to Young Life through my teacher, who invited me to a camp where I learned about Capernaum, a ministry serving kids with special needs. I felt called to serve and am now an assistant team leader, helping recruit, train leaders, and lead clubs.
As a Developing Global Leaders student, I am pursuing a nursing degree. My dream is to become a registered nurse, mentor people with disabilities, volunteer in rural medical missions, and someday open a home for children with special needs.
