Angélique Mariane

My name is Angélique, and I live in Rufisque, Senegal, in a family home with my father, sisters, grandfather, aunt, and uncles. My childhood was filled with moments of joy but also marked by deep pain. Losing my mother was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, leaving an immense void. Despite my challenges, I grew up surrounded by faith. My family and church taught me early on the power of hope and perseverance, even in the hardest seasons.

The Catholic Church has always been a place of guidance, prayer, and spiritual growth for me. Since childhood, I’ve attended Sunday Mass, participated in catechism classes, retreats, and prayer vigils, and celebrated important sacraments that shaped my faith. These experiences helped me develop a deep love for God and a heart for serving others. My personal encounter with Jesus came during a time of grief and loneliness, when I discovered Him as the Father of orphans and the healer of broken hearts. In 2015, friends invited me to Young Life, where I found a vibrant community that strengthened my faith. Today, as a Young Life Team Leader, I mentor teenagers, organize clubs and camps, and help create a welcoming space where others can experience Christ’s love.

Now a DGL, I’m studying software engineering, I hope to specialize in artificial intelligence or cybersecurity and use technology to serve communities. I aspire to mentor young girls in tech and continue sharing the hope of Christ through Young Life and my parish ministry.
