My name is Steisy Peralta. I’m a 20-year-old woman living in Santo Domingo Oeste, in El Abanico de Herrera, with my mother. My childhood was far from easy. Growing up in a low-income family, we often had just enough to survive—and sometimes not even that. We lived, and still live, in a zinc house that holds both beautiful memories and painful ones that no child should experience. But those struggles shaped my character. They taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of working for everything in life. Even in poverty, I found strength through my mother, my grandfather, and the cousins who surrounded me with love.
My life took a beautiful turn when I met Jesus at a Young Life summer camp in Pico Escondido. I once thought Christianity was boring and lifeless, but that camp changed everything. I discovered a living God and a personal relationship that transformed my emptiness into joy and purpose. Jesus has healed me, matured me, and continues to shape my character. My temper once caused pain, but now it is tempered by love and guided by faith. God has written a new story in my life—one of hope, purpose, and restoration. I always knew I wanted more. I wanted to be someone, to be a professional. My faith and determination pushed me forward, and God opened doors through my efforts.
Now as a DGL, I’m pursuing a university degree. I want to deepen my relationship with God, finish my degree, pursue a master’s, and serve my community. I want to reach other young people in need and I am committed to helping others discover that same transformation.
