Samuel

I grew up in a poor family where life was very difficult. We lived in a mud house with many leaks during the rainy season. Most days, I had only one meal at night, and I walked long distances to school without lunch or transportation. I never had toys or enjoyed the things many kids have. Losing my father at a young age was the hardest part of my childhood. It left me, my mom, and my three sisters with no clear path forward.

Even in the middle of this hardship, I found hope in Jesus. I grew up in a Christian home, but it was after my father’s death that I truly came close to God. Jesus became my only source of strength. Later, when I got involved with Young Life, I received encouragement and grew stronger in my faith. Young Life helped me believe that God had a purpose for my life and a better future ahead.

Today as a DGL, I am proud to be the first in my family to attend college. I study engineering at Milton Margai Technical University with the dream of becoming one of the best engineers in the world—solving real-life problems and helping others. I hope to be a leader who gives hope to young people, just like Young Life did for me. After graduation, I want to get a good job, support others in their goals, and continue sharing Jesus with those who don’t know Him.
