Salome

My name is Salome, and I live in Ghana with my parents and siblings. As a child, we lived a comfortable life until my father lost his job as a bank manager when the bank was sold and replaced its staff. This was a big blow to our family. Over time, things became difficult, and we had to relocate to a new city. My father started a small business to support our basic needs. Adjusting to this new life was hard, and I found myself questioning God during those tough times.

I met Jesus through a personal realization that deepened my faith. I was feeling depressed and lonely when I attended a Campaigners retreat, where the gospel message made me realize I wasn’t alone. That moment changed me. I accepted God’s grace and gave my life to Christ. I was introduced to Young Life by my area leader who invited me to camp. From the first day, I felt loved and welcomed. Young Life helped me understand how God works and gave me hope for a better future. I’m now a volunteer leader, involved in starting a college ministry and committed to reaching kids through contact work and leading small groups.

Now as a DGL, I’m studying to become a public health nurse so I can educate my community about healthy lifestyles and help care for the sick. I’ll be the first in my family to graduate from university. My goal is to grow spiritually, help others grow in their faith, and use my career to reach teenagers—especially in schools—where I can teach health and share the love of Jesus.
