Debora, who everyone calls Gabi, lives in the city of Arequipa, Peru. She shares her home with her mother and two brothers. Since she was a child, Gabriela has lived in an environment of economic and family difficulties. Her childhood was marked by the absence of her father, whom she only saw once a year. This situation deeply affected her emotions, making her feel sad and anxious. Still, going through his father's death was one of the biggest challenges of her life, but thanks to her faith in God, she was able to overcome it.
Her story with Young Life began when she was a teenager, thanks to a missionary who visited her school and invited Gabriela to a camp. Through that experience, she learned more about God's love, which profoundly transformed her life. Since then, she has been involved in Young Life for more than eight years. Currently, she is a club director in the northern area of Arequipa, serving boys and girls between the ages of eleven and fifteen.
As a Developing Global Leader, Gabriela is studying Pedagogy and Translation at the Michigan English Center in Arequipa. Her professional dream is to be a high school or university teacher, as well as a translator. She wants to work independently so that she can continue with the ministry and help young people with fewer economic opportunities. Her vision for Young Life is to continue to grow as a leader, reach more teens, and be a positive influence in her community and family.
