My name is Ricardo, and I am from Panama City, Panama. I grew up in a community full of violence and crime. Being the youngest of three brothers, I had a complicated childhood due to the pressure and expectations that my family placed on me, often being compared with my brothers' achievements. Never seeming to measure up, a small seed of resentment grew into a deep hatred in my heart which affected my attitudes, my habits, my friendships and my way of seeing life. Reaching the point of disinterest in everything and not finding meaning in life and not caring if I died or lived, I did not feel useful or needed by anyone and felt dissatisfied with myself in all aspects.

My first real encounter with God, other than attending Catholic church as a child, occurred at Young Life camp. Since I rarely felt interested in anything, I knew my strong desire for God was a calling from him to show me that even someone like me could change and make a difference in their community. God gave my life purpose, and I am passionate about guiding young people in similar situations, to lead them to a lasting relationship with God through the ministry of Young Life. I will do everything in my power so that every young person in Panama can have the opportunity to know Jesus Christ.

Now a Developing Global Leader, I am studying psychology at the University of Panama. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university. I hope to pursue ministry and use my leadership skills to impact more young people and join with others to fulfill the dream of reaching all young people in Panama.
