My name is Emely, and I live in Managua, Nicaragua with two of my four siblings. I grew up in a home where my parents were always present; my mother was caring, loving and gave unlimited attention to us and my father was a bit distant and had vices, which led to an unhealthy environment in our home. The economic situation and job instability eventually caused my parents and youngest brother to emigrate in search of solutions. Unfortunately, without the supervision of my parents, my life had no control or direction.
As an adolescent, I had a more personal encounter with Jesus when I attended Young Life camp. I heard about living with a purpose and that God's will for my life was to serve Him. Before this, I was disoriented, and my life was in disarray. My actions did not honor God. I knew that nothing good awaited me if I continued to direct my life toward suffering and failure. Thanks to God and to a leader who dreamed of coming to my community to contact young people, I met Jesus and joined Young Life.
Now a Developing Global Leader, I am studying education at Martin Luther University. It is a dream to successfully complete university and become an educator who positively influences the lives of children and young people. I am passionate about providing an education that transforms thoughts and lives, as well as instilling values and principles that guarantee a more integrated society. I am committed to God and to continue serving with love, in every place, in any circumstance and at all times.
