Brissa

My name is Brissa, and I live in Managua, Nicaragua with my mom, brother and stepfather. As a young girl, I was raised by my maternal grandmother and mom. I went with my grandmother to church every Sunday, and we spent quality time together as a family. Although it affects me that my dad is not present in my life, I thank God that I had a very beautiful and unforgettable childhood since my mom and grandmother made sure that it was so.

I was taught about Jesus growing up in the church, but I never made the decision to serve Jesus. However, when I went to Young Life camp, I learned about a Jesus who loved me despite my mistakes, a friend in whom I could trust. Something that greatly influenced my change was seeing that leaders believed in me and saw potential in me; they encouraged me to follow Jesus and fight against self-criticism, difficult friendships and my past. I connected very quickly with the ministry of Young Life because of how they reach young people. They greeted me, they knew my name, they were interested in me; I felt loved, accepted and seen and I had to be a part of making others feel the same way!

Now a Developing Global Leader, I am studying gastronomy with a specialization in culinary arts at National Polytechnic University. My hope is to become a chef in a hotel and eventually own my own restaurant. Grateful for the opportunity to coordinate a club and be a guide to young people, I hope to continue opening more clubs and be able to reach more young people with the unconditional love of Jesus.
