My name is Ghislain, and I am from the outskirts of Dakar, Senegal, in the town of Guédiawaye. I live with my parents and siblings in a household where our Christian beliefs were central to our identity. During most of my adolescence, I was timid and suffered from horrible epileptic seizures. I struggled to feel brave enough to share my thoughts, especially with my father. As the area around me was predominantly Muslim, finding others outside my family to speak to about my Christian faith sometimes proved difficult.
During my childhood, our parents raised us to practice Catholicism. However, it wasn't until high school that I truly embraced my faith. The invitation to Young Life was a turning point for me, as it allowed my faith to become more tangible and less structured. I found comfort in discussing my beliefs openly and honestly with other Christians. I enjoyed talking about Jesus and even now, I find it fulfilling to share the love of Jesus with my Muslim friends. I pray that they may come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior so that we can be brothers and sisters in Christ.
As a Developing Global Leader, I attend the Higher Institute of Management in Dakar and am pursuing a degree in logistical management. I have always been drawn to mathematics and logical thinking. This degree will allow me to better care for my family. I also know that it will allow me to help grow the ministry of Young Life in my community.
