My name is Nancy, and I live in Compostela, Cebu, Philippines with my parents and three siblings. When I was young, there were always problems surrounding my mother, and she eventually left the family and did not return for quite a long time. With her departure came an onset of negative feelings. I had so much hatred directed towards her and felt empty inside. Gratefully, my grandparents stepped in and decided they would raise me. Their unconditional love was an incredible blessing as they introduced me to Jesus and modeled what it looked like to have a servant’s heart.
For a very long time, I felt 'not good enough', especially in my mothers eyes. Then, I heard the Gospel shared at Young Life camp. It seemed unreal that I would be good enough, just as I am, and God loves me regardless. I surrendered my life to Him, and a weight lifted from my chest. He continues to bring people into my life, who love me and give me wise counsel. Currently, I serve in my church and as a Young Life leader. My goal is to make a positive impact in the lives of others so that they understand their worth as children of God, rather than believing the lies the world tells them.
As a Developing Global Leader, I am studying electrical engineering at Cebu Technological University in Danao. I will be the first college graduate in my family. I want to make access to electricity available for everyone in need, especially those living in indigenous areas. While in the DGL program, I am committed to reaching others and reminding them that what the Bible tells us is true in Psalm 139, we are His precious craftsmanship, and we are more than enough.
