Allen

My name is Allen. I was raised in the Iringa region of Tanzania and am one of eight children. Growing up, there was much favoritism shown to others in my family. I harbored an incredible amount of anger and sadness because I always felt overlooked. As both parents were farmers, money was scarce. I knew from a young age I would have to provide for myself. I began baking cakes to meet my needs and pay my school fees. Spending a lot of time working and studying was challenging, but I persevered and earned good grades. I understood early on that my education would make a difference in my future.

My life took a positive turn when I met a Young Life leader. His consistent invitations to club changed my life. He helped me begin a relationship with Jesus, transforming my sadness and anger into joy and peace. Through the Young Life community, I made friends and learned about the power of forgiveness. I discovered true hope in Him. I now serve as a team leader, where I've witnessed the impact of making others feel seen, heard, and loved.

As a Developing Global Leader, I am attending the University of Iringa and working towards earning my law degree. Being the first college graduate in my family, my vision is to help those who feel oppressed and do not have the financial means to receive fair counsel. I have firsthand experience of growing up in such an unbalanced society, and I want to create a space where others feel they have a voice and can make a difference in the lives of those around them. Ultimately, I want to share the joy Jesus gave me with others.
