Luke Willard

My name is Luke and I live in Zomba, a city in southern Malawi. As Malawi is one of the least developed countries in the world, most citizens live below the poverty line. Proper healthcare, quality education, and income-producing work are a common struggle. Having come from a family of nine children and being raised by a single mom, resources were scarce, and times were difficult. At a young age, my brothers and I found ourselves seeking farm work to produce food for our family and income for education expenses.

Fortunately, my mother intervened when she realized we had stopped attending church to work. She asked the church elders to encourage us to return to church and to trust the Lord’s provision. Their intervention changed the direction of my life. I started attending church again and discovered how important it was to have a relationship with Jesus. From that day forward, I tried my utmost to serve the Lord. I have been blessed to be a Young Life leader and on the praise team at my church.

As a Developing Global Leader, I am attending Nasawa Technical College to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. I aspire to be the first college graduate in my family. I hope to provide for my wife, child, and extended family. Ultimately, I want to share the love of Jesus with everyone I meet. A relationship with Him is far greater than any earthly treasure I may ever work towards, and I am certain, with Him, all things are possible.
