Magiri grew up in Arusha, Tanzania, a bustling city at the foot of Mount Meru and the starting point for many Tanzanian adventures, including safaris and Kilimanjaro climbs. Despite growing up in such a lively place, he struggled with feeling valued and accepted. Abandoned by his mother at the age of six, Magiri tried to cope by pretending everything was fine, but in reality, he was desperate to feel wanted and loved. His loneliness was amplified when other kids were told by their parents not to play with him because he was not raised with a mother. He felt lonely and longed for someone to be “on his side.”
He credits the beginning of his change of heart to his stepmother, who prayed over him. In 2016, Magiri attended a Young Life club held at his secondary school. There he met leaders who made him laugh and smile. That warmth and kindness appealed to him. Shortly afterward, he was invited to go to camp where he began his relationship with Jesus. He has since served as a team leader with his local Young Life and is incredibly active throughout the neighborhood ministry.
Now a Developing Global Leader, his goal is to be the first in his family to earn a college degree. He will attend the Institute of Accounting in Dar es Salaam where he will earn a degree in engineering and computer science. His heart and mind are set on sharing the gospel through connecting with youths and their interest in technology. Magiri seeks to “remain faithful and humble to His promises” and is hopeful for the positive impact he can make in the lives of others.
