Yorvin

My name is Yorvin, and I live in Santo Domingo North, Dominican Republic with my parents and my brother. Throughout my childhood, I suffered from bullying because I was overweight; it always made me cry, and I felt bad about myself. My adolescence was very sad for me, most of my friends used drugs and alcohol and others stole. I always felt differnet from them. I suffered a lot of blows because of the things that happened while with my friends. Anytime they were caught, they blamed it on me for being with them.

Sometime later I met a friend and through her I heard about the ministry of Young Life. I started going to club and since then, thank God, I am serving Jesus with my life. I am in a happy place full of peace and love because I was able to meet a different kind of friend, my friend Jesus. I began to learn more and more about Jesus through my leaders; they had something that I did not have and I knew I needed it. Because of what I witnessed in my leaders, I was “all in”, knowing I wanted a more personal relationship with my creator. As I connected with Young Life, I started serving teens in my community, expressing love in the same ways they had loved me.

Now as a Developing Global Leader, my vision is to finish my studies in dentistry at Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. It has been a dream since childhood to become a good dentist. I hope to become a better leader for the young people in my community who need me in both a professional and a ministerial way. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
