Adam

My name is Adam. I live in Brno, Czech Republic, with my mom and younger brother. When I was six years old, my little brother was born with Down Syndrome. This changed our family a lot; my mother stopped working to take care of him and my dad began to work more. Eventually my dad began working outside of the Czech Republic to provide for our family, so we would only see him three weeks out of the year. My parents stayed together, but I basically grew up without him. In the midst of it all, we stopped going to church. I grew up feeling like I would never be good enough for God.

Though I grew up in a religious family, I always thought my relationship with God was based on what I did for Him, and I failed many times. Everything changed when I became a part of Young Life. My sister invited me to camp. It was a breath of fresh air and a different approach to faith that I so desperately needed. I rekindled my relationship with God, accepted Him, and trusted Him with my heart. I started visiting a local church and am now a member. I am also a WyldLife and Young Life leader.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying engineering and computer science at Faculty of Informatics Masaryk University in Brno. After graduation, I want to be a programmer and provide for my family without having to work outside my country like my father. I would also like to keep leading Young Life. It has a special place in my heart, and I love being able to spread God’s Word and reach lost souls, the same way, only a few years ago, my life was transformed.
