My name is Jevin and I grew up in a very devout Catholic family in Cordova, Philippines. My parents work very hard to support our family. My mother has a small merchandise stand by our house while my father works as a construction worker and sometimes drives a tricycle fetching passengers. Life has always been so hard, and my family was despised by my relatives. However, my father's uncle, is a strong born-again Christian who invited my father to join his bible study. When my father and mother decided to attend his church, my family got persecuted by our relatives even more. Nonetheless, my parents were very faithful in their newfound faith and taught us to be obedient and respectful children who feared God.
When my parents became actively involved in our church, I attended Sunday School and learned about God and how to become a godly child. Last year, I was invited to go to the Young Life camp. My cabin leader helped me decide to follow Jesus. After camp, my perspective on life changed as I realized that life was more than just spending it alone. I committed to a Young Life campaigners group in my community, and grew to understand more about my responsibility to reach out to other kids for Christ.
Now attending Cordova Public College, I desire to become a professional programmer and web designer so I can help my family financially. With the DGL program, I hope to develop my leadership skills and become more confident to lead the youth in my church and my community. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
